The beautiful Island of Mljet is one of the most densely wooded islands in Adriatic. The western part of the island has been proclaimed a national park in 1960 – making it the oldest national park in Croatia. The main attractions are two salt-water lakes; Small Lake and Great Lake with a small islet of St. Mary and Benedictine monastery rising in the middle. Other cultural and historical heritage sites are witnesses from the Illyrian times until today.
